Why The Telegraph Should Kick Suhel Seth Out

Am in this rant-rant–rant mood ever since I visited Calcutta this winter. First it was the bloody pollution and the fact that Calcuttans seem to have no sense of space. (I am talking about the odd car that comes pushing into your way on the road as well as the irritating person who breathes down your neck at public hand wash areas in restaurants). Then there was the mother and the mother in law. And then there was Victoria Memorial and the way ASI has maintained it. Then there was Suhel Seth.

My in laws, unusually, do not read any Bengali paper. They do not even read the Times of India. So I was forced to read The Telegraph through my vacation. And those of you who read it would know of the page dedicated to Suhel Seth. Now I do not know why people talk to these Agony Aunt kind of pages on magazines but they do. And not all problems concern a pimple on the face. There are some serious issues also. Most magazines I have read seem to have a rather understanding approach to these issues. But this one is a pure masterpiece. I’ll explain.

There was this entry on December 28th that he answered in his usual way:

My seven year old son is autistic. He goes to an English medium school. Though, he is good in studies, he cannot communicate properly with friends and teachers. But he can communicate with family members in a better way. I am not financially strong enough to consult counsellors. We are worried about our son. Please help.

Name and address withheld

Frankly I do not have a clue. Try sending him to Delhi and I will try and see if he can become a Member of Parliament. Most of those clowns are autistic even though they pretend to be normal! But on a serious note, this is a tricky one and you will be well-advised to consult someone from the world of medicine. I am sure there are hospitals where you live unless of course you live in the Sunderbans. Try one of those places: it will be far better than wasting my time and yours by writing to me.

I mean. Look at this. Autism is a serious situation and even if I know no one affected by this, I can only imagine whatthis hapless parent might be going through. And what does Suhel Seth say? Does he even read the question before answering it? You judge.

And here are some others I found:

I am currently working in a bank and my boss has been hitting on me for the past one year. He has tried to woo me through various means, however, I have always avoided him. However, six months back, I also started feeling for him. Though I wanted to avoid getting into a physical relationship with him, he has been persisting for long. I gave in last month and we ended up getting physical. But he has been ignoring me ever since. If I want, I can reveal all his secrets and ruin his career, but I will not do that. What should I do?

Name and address withheld

Nothing. Just carry on with some bank work for a change. Why do you think banks all over the world are in this situation? You guys are so busy sleeping with each other that in the process the consumer and the market gets screwed if you know what I mean? My advice to you is re-jig your love or lust passbook and start working for a change. Given the kind of woman you are, this is not going to be your last affair. I see you becoming an expert in this business and your capital adequacy ratios in terms of lustful affairs are very high. Have a good life and let me know if you need any help!

I am a 52-year-old man. My wife has misappropriated a huge chunk of money from our joint accounts and original insurance policies. She is denying the fact and is also refusing to hand over the cheque books and pass books, which are still with her. She abuses me scornfully in front of our relatives. I want a legal annulment of our marriage either by divorce or by changing religion so that I can remarry. Please advise.

Name and address withheld

Legal annulment even after all this? Are you in denial? This woman hates you. If you were valuable, she would have killed you and you still want to explore legal options? Throw the bloody woman out; complain to the cops (not if you live in Calcutta since those guys are busy running cricket) and run for your life. Abuses you? I am surprised she hasn’t thrown acid on you or slapped you, you little loser; you glutton for punishment. You are everything a man shouldn’t be. God, they still make people like you?

This man has no respect for another person, is extremely condescending about real issues and seems to have no idea of what he is talking about. And The Telegraph still has him on its payroll. Sure, it mentions he has an “unconventional take” but does unconventional really translate to rude? Disgusting? Insensitive? Again, you judge.

  1. Well don’t agree with you on the first part of kolkata … n its cramming self… But yes i still remember Suhel Seth and his uncanny idiotic comments to others situations. I alwayz thought why people send him queries… was it for fun or just to get insulted…..

  2. I too often wonder why people write to suhel seht and that also mostly about serious issues. But …at times i have felt that readers too have cooked up strange stories in order to get an erratic response from him.I am not very sure though. These days…have stopped reading suhel seht’s reply,I only read those queries. He sounds too tired and frustrated to give a reply to the readers, let alone a proper reply. Is he paid for this column? If he is,is he paid for all this…

  3. I get a feeling Seth is one of those self-mailing agony uncles. Monday through Friday, he composes the questions and spends Saturday answering them. The collective excreta is published on Sunday.

In any case, if The Telegraph does indeed give him the boot – as Such has benevolently suggested – I’m sure he won’t have any trouble locating an alternative job: I heard Letters to Penthouse is still open to freelancers and there’s http://www.literotica.com anyway – Seth seems just right for either task.

So, Suhel ma boy, there’s hope for you yet – even during a recession as bad as this one.

    • well done. you just said what the sucker deserved.

    • ha ha ha. Badhiya. Seriously. Your suggestions to Suhel are just apt. Especially that Penthouse job thing. He indeed befits it. Ha Ha Ha. Hope he (read suhel – asshole # 1).

I was just wondering if David Dhavan can find this interesting and make a B-grade masala film with Suhel Seth as the lead actor. The flick can be aptly titled “Asshole # 1″.

      What say you?

  4. this suhel seth should be given few tight slaps in public. Dunno who gives him the right to insult people who write into him. if someone can then take these comments to telegraph and maybe then he will be shown the door.

    • people writing to him should know what they are signing up for. if they are moronic enough not to, then they deserve to be insulted in the inimitable suhel seth style!

  5. I sincerely agree with D that he cooks up the stupid probs and publishes them….. Come on man… U gotta agree there are ppl who inadvertently turn to survival strategies(is that what it is called?) in graphiti…. No wonder Telegraph sells… there is no dearth of pervs.

  6. Yes, I agree about Suhel Seth. He is an incredible… (well, allow me to not finish my sentence :P ).

And you know, I somehow prefer the Telegraph over the Kolkata version of the ToI! (Well, you have to admit, there’s more to the Telegraph than Suhel Seth, and indeed, more to the Telegraph than the Sunday Graphiti.)

  7. Suhel Seth is a total waste of space and it says a lot about the state of our nation to give a man like him the importance it does. He is a social and politcal climber. Makes sure he is on tv crying outrage at things that might buy him some public support, Write rubbish in these articles which to be frank look like they have been made up by make believe people. He is scum towards women at parties. All in all the guy deserves to be snuffed out,.

  8. Yea, why people write to him? And if people are taking it just for FUN, then whats the use of this column? Negative publicity I guess ;)

I wrote about Suhel and his clownery in my blog as well. Sometimes his comments are barely legal.

    Graphiti | Sunday , May 17 , 2009 |

    From:

    Mrs Patralekha Ghosh
    The Principal,
Ashok Hall Girls’ Higher Secondary School

    Dear Sir,

Our attention has been drawn by the parents / guardians and students of our school to your Graphiti issue dated April 26. In “Survival

    Strategies”, Mr Suhel Seth has

suggested certain solutions to a reader, which inter alia reads as follows:

“I don’t think your kind of guy can hope to get someone from Loreto House (like we did) so I would

suggest you settle for Ashok Hall or Rani Birla or some other fine place and see if you get lucky.”

The advice given by Mr Suhel Seth hurt the sentiments of parents / guardians and students of our school a lot and degenerated the reputation of the school. We agree with the parents/ guardians’ view that Mr Suhel Seth’s insinuation is arrogant, disrespectful, in poor taste and is totally uncalled for.

We, therefore, request you and Mr Suhel Seth to withdraw the said remark and apologise for such remarks. The apology should be published boldly in the forthcoming issue of Graphiti and he should refrain from making such remarks in future against any educational institution specially girl’s schools or colleges.

    Yours faithfully,

    Mrs Patralekha Ghosh,
Principal, Ashok Hall Girls’ Higher Secondary School

    Suhel Seth replies:

    Dear Madam Principal:

I believe my April 29 comment on your school has upset you, some of your students and some of the parents. I am surprised it has because the comment was not meant to be either hurtful or for that matter disrespectful. The reason why this column is so successful and widely read is because of its irreverence. Never because it spreads hatred or an agenda. I am saddened that in this instance you, some of your students and some of the parents thought otherwise.

The other reason why this column exists is because it is part of a newspaper that is respected because it encourages contrarian thought and is published from a city called Calcutta which breeds everything else except intolerance and that too in the publishing world.

I have had the fondest memories of Ashok Hall and I have, at the invitation of your predecessors and your managing trustee (Manjushree Khaitan), been there as a guest speaker many times. Obviously, those times have changed and I am saddened by that too. I wish to reiterate that in these humourless times, the only thing this column strives for is to help people laugh. Obviously I misread the humour barometer.

    My very best,

    Suhel Seth

    • Humour barometer?! This guy really thinks he is funny !!

Non, welcome aboard, and thank you.

  10. To all those who wonder why people write to him, check d’s comment above.

I remember my friend sent him a message regarding how he couldn’t stop having sex with his maid servant. Believe it or not, it got published. I suppose the poor man believes that ALL those letters sent to him are pranks. Well you can’t really expect much from a columnist who writes for Telegraph but still…..

His snobbery does make its appearance more than once whenever Gujaratis or contributors from smaller towns are involved. There’s nothing much I can say to this. Most La Martiniere guys were egoistic fags in my time and probably still are.

In any case, I’m rather surprised there aren’t all that many bloggers that speak out against Suhel Seth and his idiocy. Props to you for doing so!

    • Yes, I second what you have said in the last para above. It indeed takes great amount of audacity and truthfulness (read courage) to bring out such revealing facts against people like Suhel. He is nothing but a clever ****ing reptile (read treacherous), unscrupulous enough to sell his filth in today’s filthy world.

That’s all about it. People like him will continue to hog limelight and make great money by sabotaging true national thinking. It is because we are a country made of not 28 states but actually 28 countries put together. Secularism is crap.

Kapoors in bollywood; Gandhis in Delhi and Cricket in sports continue to remain greatest eternal symbols of our collective mediocrity. For a guy like Suhel to leverage this o his advantage is I guess merely a child’s play.

I guess we portray some originality and audacity to believe and practice what’s true and what shall go. Let us gain some originality. We are running right into the face of the same disaster for which the west only did a slow walk.

I appreciate the writer of this blog and her courage to come bold on Suhel’s nonsensical crap.

  11. [...] you guys want to say something about Suhel Seth and add to my case, go read the comments section on this post I had written some time back. [...]

  12. The incident is briefly mentioned on her (the principal’s) blog and on her twitter account as well:

    http://patralekhaghosh.wordpress.com/tag/ashok-hall-girls-high-secondary-school/

    http://twitter.com/patralekhaghosh

  13. and i have an issue with seth’s comments on a personal level too… i conducted weekly classes at ashok hall for two years.

    • While I admit that a lot of jokes exist about schools in Calcutta…I mean the MHS skirts and LMB fags and things like that, they exist between friends and are never blown out in a manner certain to hurt sentiments. This is a blatant insult and I can’t believe The Telegraph actually publishes this sort of madness in the name of “humour”. I wonder why more people do not write in to them against this man and his downright offensive attitudes. Plus he has the balls to defend himself. Disgusting !!

  14. The autist case was cruel enough…person writing such responses should be slammed in public…the rest two…he just needs the parties in those cases to work and no sympathy in that regard will help..

  15. Good on you, I have seen him many times on TV giving his so called expert advice on all matters, I have tried finding out exactly what his job is and cannot find any info, other than his media and this kind of BS. Good to see some blog on him, but lets not give him any more publicity. Finally I think all those letters are just made up, the questions dont seem real , anyhow, there are so many types of bullshitters in media, thats just one in many.

  16. Suhel is the biggest jerk,LOSER in his words,on the face of the earth!!He should probably write himself a letter askin why he is single??because he is a reterd,he has no clue about how sorry his life is so he uses these fake letters to earn a spot in the eye of the pervs!!

  17. I was a regular reader of the “Survival Strategies” column, but I have stopped reading when Suhel Seth started wrinint on that column. To me now that column is total waste of time for the senders as well as the readers. I do not know, if Suhel reads his column or not. May be he also has stopped reading that column.

    • I do not know, if Suhel reads his column or not. May be he also has stopped reading that column.

      LMAO :D

  18. I am deeply concerned how and why the Telegraph is denigrating itself by giving the space to such a bullshitter. Entire media must scornfully reject him. He speaks as crow is cawing or highly complex stricken fellow is rattling.

  19. oh stop this Crap u guys…what’S the matter with U……
U are not the ones writing to him n getting his suggestions…n if u really think the people who write him are hurt..then please consult some Psychology books…if u are from cities which i doubt.
Do you think that the people who write to him are Dumb like you all???,,,don’t you think that they read The Graffiti regularly and know what to expect from them..
Honestly You all critics are Losers….who end up criticizing people… at least he is helping people solve problems in his own way… Wat have U losers contributed ??Nothing….
    Bunch of geeks n losers…..

I LOVE SUHEL SETH….N IF U DNT LIKE HIM…THEN …GO AND TELL HIM FACE TO FACE…BUT I KNOW YOU LOSERS AINT HAVE ANY GUTS,,,
    u ROCK SUHEL SETH….

    • Extremely sensitive I see. Look, the question here is not whether we are doing anything to help anyone. It’s about having some sort of basic sensitivity to people who might, in the absence of any other form of help, be turning to him as last resort. And if he thinks he has the right to make fun of people’s troubles, there remains very little to be said about him, and the likes of you who read his column for sheer entertainment on a Sunday morning. May be you really should wake up and smell the coffee, huh?

      • @suschismita:: we all have our own different perceptions….The simplest reason is people fake crying for our tradition, religion etc etc… Our tradition and religion are not made of wax….. melting down the minute they are exposed!!….. He’s style is different…. cracking nasty comments with a taste of humor…….
He’s style is different…. cracking nasty comments with a taste of humor….but HE TELLS THE TRUTH…DEEP DOWN U MIGHT HAVE NOTICED IT…..which people know but are too egoist or fake to admit it……

yeah i do agree some jokes he cracked at some schools(above) were not genuine n he apologized….

    • I totally agree :)

    • i agree wid u completely, these ppl are noting but a bunch of goody two shoes , namby pamby lowlifes with absolutely no sense of humour!

    • Prasin I totally agree with you , these all are losers and we are not because we understand humour and I love him too.He is jst Superb, and moreover theabove ppl who r against him rite nw ll love him soon m sure their brain ll start wrking one day

    • yeah, well I have told him that – face to face. The guy is such a moron and neck deep in his own pride garbage, he didn’t even realize what happened. Using economical jargon or throwing figures on TV doesn’t make him an expert on world affairs.

Of course, he is entitled to have an opinion, and to broadcast it as well, but probably with a bit more deceny, combed hair and more respect to humans around him.

i work in an industry where i bump into him quite often, sometimes just when he is busy kissing other people’s wives (behind their back), begging for drinks in free parties or mouthing profanities, and trust me…… we could use him for another laika experiment for chandrayaan project. We’d be better off with him on moon than on earth.

    • Yes, I agree with Prasin Moktan. Yes Prasin …you are so smart and full of urban attitude..way to go dude…what do you eat for meal Prasin to get such huge (pseudo)intellect? Well I guess it’s Suhel’s different bodily fluids …But I am pretty sure I am not ready to be blessed by such superior sense of human psychology…I am happy with my normal diet..

      • @sampat :: we all have our own different perceptions….The simplest reason is people fake crying for our tradition, religion etc etc… Our tradition and religion are not made of wax….. melting down the minute they are exposed!!….. He’s style is different…. cracking nasty comments with a taste of humor….but HE TELLS THE TRUTH…DEEP DOWN U MIGHT HAVE NOTICED IT…if not i “suggest taking Suhel’s body fluids”(lol)…..which people know but are too egoist or fake to admit it…….. KEEP IT SIMPLE SILLY…
i dont mean to hurt anyone….. n hey….m from a small town…. not at all urban!!

  20. We must learn to laugh at ourselves.
Seth’s column does that.Someone once said,
‘ A little bit of nonsense now and then
Is relished by the best of men.
I read the graphiti only for Suhel’s column.
He makes me laugh and laughter is good for you

  21. Well all of u r criticizing Suhel but I am sure that all of u read his funny responses with great interest and fun.Why don’t u accept some fun in life. Many people have vented their anger but they must realize that the main objective here is to have some fun.Suhel knows this. His postings bring some freshness from dull and monotonous life.
If some people bring some serious thing to him ,it is there foolishness-Why would that mom ask Suhel about her kid’s Autistic problem? Why would not she consult a doctor?Thing is clear-those who write actually lie and want some fun too..nothing wrong about it.
About u-Suchismita-I think u r another Haashte maana Bong-add some spice in ur life.

    • Mr. Sarkar, trust me, I have a lot of fun in life, as most other entries on this blog will tell you. And I don’t need to read Suhel Seth’s column in order to bring more entertainment in my life, and I am sure the others here don’t either. Having said that, let’s imagine you had an autistic son. You’ve tried doctors, you’ve tried quacks, and then one day as you are helplessly watching your son hurts himself in a panic attack. You then think you will try the last option available, in the hope that magazine cousellors will give you some contact about further help. And you get Suhel Seth on the other end making fun of you and your autistic son. Would you still say the same thing?

Empathise Mr. Sarkar. Because if you can’t you really haven’t grown up from being that schoolboy who laughed each time a friend fell down and hurt himself.

      • In that case,as u have mentioned,I would never go to any magazine counselor but a super specialist doctor.
This place-Survival Strategies -is not the place for serious discussions,no body expect. It’s for pure fun-U have lots of fun but not others.
Asking for a better medical management for an autistic to a Advertisement pro is something like going to a barber for removing Hernia.
The objective of the magazine is to give some pleasure to it’s reader at the cherished weekend.
And last, I never laughed at someone who fell rather I went to him to pull him up and clean.

    • his autistic comment was in bad taste, but the of solutions deserve the insults they get served by Mr. Seth !

    • if your idea of having fun is reading reponses to agony aunt queries, then something is seriously wrong with you. Or maybe, we’ll ask you if you’re having fun when you encounter a serious problem in your family and you’re scratching your nuts looking fpr some answers.

anyway, if you want fun while reading, i suggest TINTIN or DILBERT. Suhel, perhaps best known for his VERBAL DIARRHOEA, doesn’t even come close to either (in the fun department).

  22. 22.

  23. plz don’t fight mam , mr. Sarkar has given his point’s only and comment you leave to mr. sarkar is quite similar to the comment’s made suhel seth (sounding rude) .
Suhel sethe is marketing nd management consultant and good columnist so befor asking qustions one has to know his/her problem and where to put coz one can’t put a round peg in a square hole .
Lot’s of options r avilable on web plz take help from it rather critcising some one .

    • @Jayanta and Ritesh, why is it so difficult to see that there are some things in life that you do NOT joke about? If Suhel wanted to make people laugh could he not have chosen a better way to do it than appear on a survival strategy column? And there are loads of other celebrities who are giving good advice to people about myriad issues. Why can’t Suhel Seth be even slightly sensitive? And since it is clear he is incapable of doing it, may be it is time the Telegraph kicked him out.

  24. If you love George Carlin… you’ll love Suhel. But his sardonic genius is always misinterpreted. I love Suhel’s irreverent tone in the column and the sarcasm he uses is AWESOME. I hope he picks on me someday when I write to him of my problems, if any then.

The only ones who may dislike him are the prudes.

  25. Anyone who loves counter culture will love Suhel and his ilk – Zappa, Carlin, Robbin Williams and South Park amongst others.

  26. and yes… Eff the prude.

    • If you have read any other entries in this blog Paddy, you’d know a prude and I don’t get along. And frankly, with all the irreverence in the world, eff all those people who think making fun of issues is funny. It’s called insensitive.

      • And I keep wondering why Suhel hasn’t used the seven dirty words yet. He should and he should stump us all the MORE. Kudos to anyone who can call a spade a spade in whatever way and words they choose.

  27. Talking of insensitivity, I’m taking it, you haven’t watched South Park yet. I have been reading Seth’s column for many years now and his no-nonsense approach to things is well received. Agreed, he may have gone overboard at times, but what the heck…. even South park had a Snuke and a Bloody Mary.

  28. And in Suhel Seth’s music, I can well see an India brimmed in a fearless questioning milieu that every politician, temple priest and church clergy fear the most. So I have to applaud his ability to instil counter culture in India and embolden those in the masses who may have never had the gonads to dare “think”.

Again hail Suhel…. and eff the prude, especially those with the hypocritical “gentlemanly restraint” that most Indians are notorious for.

  29. Well Suhel Seth should actually be kicked out. What does he mean by “unconventional take on problems”? He is one big idiot I have ever come across!!! His satires and banters are only to showcase that how different he is! But in reality he is actually disgusting and pisses the hell out of anyone who is in a problem. Most of his answers are like riddles or a pun!If this is the reason why Telegraph pays him than I am sorry to say that newspaper is actually a sick industry! No one tolerates audacity and that is what Suhel Seth vents out! If he is angry with himself, he ,must retire!

  30. Hey Guess what, I like Suhel Seth’s column. Not everthing in this world is to be taken seriously. People who find his columns insulting would find Peepli Live also insulting.
Lets stop the hypocricy and just widen our SENSITIVTY just a little more.

  31. I googled Suhel Seth when he started being a panelist for all sorts of discussions on news channels and wanted to know what exactly his area of expertise was. The first thing that came up was his wikipedia page which gave such a glowing description of him that I have no doubt that he wrote it himself and the other thing that got my interest was this blog post. Very interesting read I must say! :D

  32. to all the above critiques… are u people NUTS….people who write to newspaper/mags for solution to their problems deserve to get a answer like these….now with the autism thing….how the writer expect suhel to solve the problem..they should be consulting doctors not graffiti column….

For the old man & his abusive wife…that idiot still is writing to a column for solution he should be taking legal action than writing to suhel

and last but not the least that bank afffair that woman…she went full Monty with her lecherous boss…did she ask suhel before doing it..i mean what kind of problem is it!!..by the way i would love to have that woman’s number

and more over people who write to columns and expect to get solutions in a few lines from people whom they hardly know is ridiculous and they deserve these kind of answers.

@suchismita majumder you seem like a “ramgarurer chana” kind of person.

  33. hi i happened to see a recent arnab goswami – suhel seth debate. totally pissed with the way this two talk, i googled suhel+joker. your blog is the first to appear.
nice to know that somebody shares my thoughts on suhel. btw the replies were terrible and deserves capital punishment.

ps: arnab+joker has more results in google.

  34. Suhel was my classmate at J.U. He was an asshole then and hes still an asshole, only a richer one. He sucked at academins in college and obviously still has no clue about anything on earth. Doesnt surprise me!

  35. Well…the column seemed to me an apt example of a feature for the masses by the asses ! I don’t read it and I don’t read The Telegraph anymore and its not because they have this asshole on payroll but because he has been given the irrefutable liberty to mock at anything that moves on earth. (also its not available outside India….thank God !!)
That being said, I actually almost died laughing at the muddle-headed questions by the morons of the 21st Century. (no reference to the autistic question though which is put up as an example of the heights of apathy by Mr . Seth on wikipedia) Im sure most of the questions are for real by real dumass dimwits like the one where the girl sleeps with her boss and bawls to Seth about it for counseling. I bet she wouldn’t have been thinking about his children..lol !

  36. [...] on How To Fix “Error code:…yoan on What I’ve Been Doin…dhruv on Why The Telegraph Should Kick …dhruv on Why The Telegraph Should Kick [...]

  37. i dnt thnk suhel seth must b kick out frm telegraph bt those who r asking him the solution for their problems must stop asking him..he is nt a damn workless person sitting useless and giving answers to the ppl…he is just giving his ideas if ppl wnt 2 follow dem..follow it or damn go to helllll…it doesnt matter 2 hm @ ol…so its a damn idiotic topic whch shudnt b raised…

  38. This guy Suhail is a wierdo…. and a rude and misbehaved one at that. I had the misfortune of being seated next to him in economy class Jet Airways flight once. He was behaving like a cheap ruffian with the flight attendants… with the ‘don’t you know who I am’ attitude . But I look at it this way – he is a clown who can make a boring day a little lively with his buffoonery. Don’t you need a clown in a circus between all the serious stuff for a laugh…..

  39. Suhel Seth is stupid. Just like the Telegraph’s editorial board. These people don’t know how to read maps? Can you believe it? And they have graduated from top schools! Roll eyes.

  40. Well I did not find anything rude….the problems they came up with were so foolish that the answers are actually a no brainer.

    Autism? Come on visit doc…

Slept with your boss who now avoids you…fuck him or rather dont fuck him ,just move on you will find someone else to fuck with lol.

    Wife abuses you? Remember cops?

The answers should have been that brief actually I am really surprised that a busy man like Suhel has actually taken time to write so much answering those idiotic questions in first place. I mean look at the girl for instance (bank employee with boss scenario)she knew what was going to happen and now when it happened she is complaining? I would guess she did all that for promotion and career and now wasting time of people after getting used. Dumb head. Dumb problem.

  41. Well, people seems to enjoy the witty answers of Mr. Sheth. And this becomes the buying proposition of the newspaper of sundays. Thats good business for the company ABP Ltd. I really doubt that if the queries send to Telegraph are for real and not made up by the newspaper. But…not always he is answering in his usual gothic ways, some of his answers are also heart-touching and serious, giving a way to the query sender get his suggestion !!

  42. These days Harvard Business School guys (Suhel Sheth) have so many times to waste time on answering some bloody questions !!!

  43. Suhel Seth was, is, and in all probability would remain a combination of an imbecile and a buffoon…….. at least this is clear to people like me who have had the misfortune of encountering this apology for humanity long back, while in college

  44. First of all, I must reject the reluctance of the author towards Kolkata & its people. It’s true we’ve lost the sense of space but we’ve lost it by force not by choice. We’ve accommodated so much of Indian population cause we believe in accommodating style. So, my request to the author is to stop being sarcastic at Kolkata & its people.

@ Suhel, Look son, you’ve got enough publicity out of your good- for- nothing kinda expertise. Now get back to work and stop making sarcastic comments on others’ miserable situation. One more thing son, your idea of putting down self made queries and then replying them in your so-called unconventional way, is exposed now. So, stop fooling people around.

@ Telegraph…You media people have well been depicted in the Aamir Khan production ‘Peepli Live’. You deserved that scorn. Anyway, you better work on your marketing strategies rather than working on people’s surviving strategies.

    Regards,

A well wisher of ‘The Telegraph’

    • @Amin, I am really a total Calcuttan at heart, so it disappoints me when even the slightest is not right. Though I totally agree with you there.

  45. Good to know that Suchismita. But you know what? This is for the first time I’ve ever seen a Calcuttan to come up with a well measured step to give the so-called celebrities the taste of their own lesson. Hats off buddy.

I really liked the way you took this stand and the selection of topic is really a much needed and a burning one. These losers are making money by be-fooling innocent Calcuttans.

I would appreciate if you come up with more of such discussions in future, especially with those addressing the hidden issues relating to our Calcutta people. I promise to give a mainstay in such initiatives.

    Regards,

    A bro from distance.

    • Thank you very very much Amin, and I will keep that in mind! You know you could also tell me sometimes if there is an issue you feel strongly about and may be I could take it up here? Have been awfully out of ideas lately!

  46. I have no idea why some people defend this typical ass**le called suhel seth… He once visited my school..and I dont remember much of him except what I thought then …and my opinion hasn’t changed. this guy has dialed up his attitude meter after surviving the 26/11 …No doubt this dweeb lumped his pants and wet his room when he heard the first shot…

when someone 52 years old writes to someone younger, he deserves respect. i personally think someone who’s defending this ass*ole wasn’t lucky enough to receive proper social education and all of them are rich spoiled brats…

there is no point in trying to bring them back to senses…these people even bad mouth their own mother’s…what respect would they have for other people…

  47. He is an elite puppet. He works for Taj, consults its hotels in London. What he talks is exactly opposite of what he does. On recent IBN Live debate about income disparity he blamed a lot to corporates but he forgot himself that he is free lance consultant for marketing.

  48. Having seen this fellow pop up on every news channel often, opining about all things under the sun, and having no clue as to what the gentleman actually does/did in life to be blessed with opinions on every subject known and unknown to man, I did a Google search on him as I espied him yet again on TV speaking into the microphone after MF Husain’s funeral and hit upon this blog.

So, by your account, he is/was a sob sister. Enlightened….thanks.

  49. If this is what is meant by free speech in India, this is actually a “free” waste of time and resource!!!!!!!!! Hail you bloggers!(for people who miss out, the comment is IRONIC!!!!!!!!)

  50. i love suhel seth’s column… i read graphiti for that sole purpose. his take on problems is funny and yet intuitive.
Points raised by suchismita are beyond doubt, fair. But my friend, take it the other way, where the whole telegraph reading community waits for sundays. It is just there for fun and yet i assure you,intuitive.. Mr. Seth is amazing, though i agree that occassionaly he writes a bit odd things.. People who read telegraph are well aware of his ways. They write to him because they love him and want him to speak more on their issues( and not because that they think he is a doctor or something).
I am afraid Suchismita, but you should understand that guy a little more(so many people love him for his column). But i do respect your feelings for people of kolkata, i am however from dhanbad.
hope you can understand him a lot better. For others here against him, i dont give a damn about you perverts.

    • @above thingy,

Your logical approach to the issue is commendable and somewhat a balancing act but can you please tell me why do you have a grudge about the people out here (other than the author who are against Mr. Seth)? I’m also against him but tell me who certified you to call us ‘pervert’? Or are you suffering from vocabulary deficiency syndrome (VDS)?

Awaiting to hear from you soon.

      Regards,

      Amin

      • Alright, this looks like it’s going the way of catfights again. Rahul, While I agree with Amin that you did have a very commendable approach to the issue, you really had no reason or right to call the others “perverts”. See, the whole purpose of a blog is to air opinions and simply because someone differs from you does not make them a pervert. And to exclude me in the list and condemn other Suhel Seth haters is even more offensive to my readers who you have categorically termed “perverts”.
@Amin, We’ll just assume that it was a mistake on Rahul’s part and bury this ok? Please let’s not fight about this. As the blog owner, I apologise for not editing the comment.

      • According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English language, pervert means – to interpret incorrectly, misconstrue or distort.. “an analysis that perverts the meaning of a poem”, is what they give as an example.
It doesnot only relate to sexual behaviour,as i fear the two of you seem to be thinking of. Don’t you guys have a sense of humour ? Sorry but I have no intention of schooling you.I just made my point clear enough.

For Mr. Amin, how do you know for sure, as you write , that Mr. Seth cooks up everything for the telegraph.Do you think he made the column of that principal from Ashok Hall Girl’s High School too? I am afraid you are not aware of the qualities that gentleman from Miss Majumder’s city possesses. Turn to some NDTV, IBN ,CNBC etc. and you will know what immense knowledge that man possesses. He is perfectly a good class of people and is a very respectable identity. One of the reasons i love Kolkata is because it has produced a speaker of that quality(international repute) . Even Chetan Bhagat listens to him carefully(during discussions) with great delight and due respect.

I am not trying to convince you people on my point. Mr. Suhel Seth is far above all these discussions. And I am saying this , not because I am a fan of his and want to become like him one day, but i think he deserves a lot better .

Just see how confident that man is while speaking. You cannot win over him , on his worst day. He never hesitates to name any politician in his talks. He is so open minded and direct. He always shows respect to the people around him, dont count his joking instincts please. They just make his talks more captivating. Is it enough for you people? Because for me it’s not.

As far as the survival strategies are concerned, it is there more for fun than expert help. And I very often see brilliant answers from his side, which any hypocrite expert is incapable of providing . What more do we expect from a 7- line answer? Is he supposed to write medicines? Come on, he just shows their weaknesses in context to their problems. His words work as “driving out of the comfort zone” and he persuades people to take independent decisions, with a little help from his side.

Am I clear enough Mr. Amin?

  51. @ Dear Suchis….leave it, I also forgot it but don’t make me blush coz of ur innocently sweet words. You’re a typical blog owner…LOL

  52. I hope I have scored fairly enough this time! And as for the misunderstanding, whatsoever, arising from my words, I apologise for the same.

I excluded you because your points seemed logical to me. I respect you a lot more for the love you share with the people on this blog..

    • @rahul, I am afraid both Amin and I did think of the more conventional meaning of the word “pervert”. In any case, I really appreciate your clearing the air here, and must also admit that you are the only person on this post who has explained his support for Seth without any malice to those who dislike him. I wish this blog had more people commenting like you. All that said, I still feel Suhel Seth makes a dirty joke out of people’s problems, and sensitivity is all I am calling for here. But to each his own. If you respect him, my opinions should not matter, eh?
Yes, you scored very highly this time and you stand forgiven :) Thank you for your kind words about me and yes, I do care about every single person who has posted on this blog.

    • Dear Rahul,

      See the following:

      1. For others here against him, i dont give a damn about you perverts
      2. According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English language, pervert means – to interpret incorrectly, misconstrue or distort..
      3. Don’t you guys have a sense of humour ? Sorry but I have no intention of schooling you.I just made my point clear enough.

Before questioning our sense of humor against your mockery on us, may I know your sense of relevance? You used the word as a noun (in sentence 1) and explaining the same in a diverted way as a verb (in sentence 2). This shows how honest and how courageous you were before and after the delivery of that particular word.
The wittiness of an agony counselor perceived good or bad (as here in this blog) depending upon the understanding of people is a different issue and being honest for an issue is altogether a different scenario. I don’t wanna argue with you about the humorous qualities of Mr. Seth or his disheartening approach towards miserable people coz I believe people may have different images of a same person depending upon their perception and interpretation. But mocking your fellow participants on a blog and diverting from your words when questioned is something that must be argued and sorted out.
Anyway, since you’ve accepted that you have used the word in a different sense, I’ve no ill feeling for you anymore.

      • Oh hell, do you both have to be so logical? I am waiting for one of you to make a slip here so I can be really stern like the other blog owners and say something nasty but you guys are blowing me away with all the rational conversation here!

Amin, good to see you have chosen to not take offense to Rahul’s comment and I believe both you have explained yourselves adequately for this to become a fight now, or need any more explanation. I knew when I was writing this post that there would be opinions that differ wildly from mine, and Rahul has given a very decent explanation for his opinion. You too have made your and my opinions rather substantiated. Thank you so much! :)

      • Ha ha.
        Hi Mr. Amin,
I cant figure out which part of your reply, i should be aiming at. Because you seem to say everything , and yet nothing substantial, yourself as you said-
“since you’ve accepted that you have used the word in a different sense, I’ve no ill feeling for you anymore”, only just after you objected on the noun – verb MEANING differences.
I believe it is not hard to understand, after my previous explanation, that I did not mean to offend you people by ,what Miss Majumder correctly says, “the more conventional meaning of the word.”
I am not saying that your dictionary is not fat enough to give detailed uses of the word. I just want you to see that dictionary.reference.com intends to describe the meaning of the “NOUN pervert” like this (apart from its sexual counterpart)
*** pervert- noun- a person who has been perverted, especially to a religious belief regarded as erroneous.
If you agree with the meaning of the v. form I gave in my previous Explanation no. 1, it will not be hard to figure it out yourself.
And I will tell you a little secret. We engineering students, are a little skeptical about our 100% accuracy of the grammar we use in informal talks.
But it seems to me that for an English scholar , as you seem to pretend, it is more than enough to understand the meaning of one’s views at the 1st instance, when one himself describes his meaning in a clear note.

Well I would also like to say that this blog is aimed at Mr.Suhel Seth and not English tutorials(isnt it Suchismita?).

And I will be very direct to you on this matter. You seem to go off the topic too often, though I have no problem with it (I know others can have!).
And I dont find a single innovative idea in any of your views against Suhel, I am sorry. Why do you refrain from talking on Mr. Seth,(as you did , when i questioned u on Ashok Hall Girl’s Column and your obvious wit and charm and so called CERTIFICATION on saying that Mr. Seth cooks up everything on Telegraph’s behalf, did that seem less important than giving english tutorials? For me it’s not. I am here to discuss on Mr. Seth ! ) rather than wasting time and space on your free Perfect English tutorials(sometimes it might be a bonus for Suchismita’s bloggers, do u think so?)?It is definitely working for me , I find absolutely no problem answering any dimension of your question if it’s related to Mr. Seth , who must be busy waking up people of India from their sleep since centuries, through his columns and interviews.

I hope I have adequately answered your condescending queries..
Hope to hear from you soon.

      • Ah, scathing!

Now this is a catfight, isn’t it? Amin, I shall wait for your reply, and from then on, I shall edit comments because this post has seen far too much bitterness already from the others.

  53. Hi Suchismita,
I appreciate the fact that you help your bloggers understand your viewpoints, rather than fight them over non-trivial issues. You seem to take counter arguments as well, with ease, if you find that logical. That explains to me that you and your blog are worthy of high praise.
Please try to substantiate more on the bad effects, if any, have occured to your city fellows due to Mr. Seth’s column(like the Ashok Girl’s School, case).I will accept that with pleasure and I am sure even Suhel would, without any hard feelings. Who does not do mistakes, especially when you work for a hell lot of people? I hope you find yourself in a position to be capable of doing that.
For the transparency, you keep on your blog, I would love to discuss any issue .See the question is not whether or not, you or me, find him good or bad. The truth should be exposed.
As far as I can see Mr. Suhel Seth is well educated and respected in the Indian Media. He is an actor, an excellent speaker.THE TELEGRAPH has never had major issues with him .
    One more thing:
I LOVE YOUR BLOG and your comments, Ms. Majumder !

  54. @Suchis…If you read my above replies to Rahul, you can easily figure out that I never meant to enter into any kinda arguments with anyone out here REGARDING THE TOPIC. What I objected was just Rahul’s approach towards fellow chaps out here. But since he is determined to look deviated and drag me into catfight, I must inform you and him that I don’t get carried away with irrelevant invitations.
@ Rahul..for your kind info, the ENGLISH TUTORIAL WAS STARTED BY YOU NOT ME as you seem to be highly obsessed with your teaching capabilities. And thus deviation was from your side not mine. As I said earlier, I’m not into irrelevant invitations, I would prefer not to reply your provocation.

    Regards

    • Now then, the problem stands resolved! Boys shake on that and we shall not behave like school children for whom one misunderstanding is all it takes to get into a fistfight ok? Ok.
@Rahul, I think more than actual physical bad effects, me, and most people supporting my argument have a problem with the completely insensitive manner in which Suhel speaks about the problems. See, while it may be true that no one with an actual problem writes to him, there might be people who have faced similar issues and chance on his column. Say if you had a child with autism, and you knew how difficult it is, would you really like it if you happened to find out Seth’s comments on the affliction? It’s difficult to make a hypothesis, but I am sure that when other readers personally relate to the issues raised, his column doesn’t leave a very good taste in their mouths. That said, thank you very much for your appreciation about the blog.
@Amin, very matured, very restrained. Thank you!

      • @Suchis…You are welcome but not everytime! LOL & thank God you said ‘matured’; I was expecting ‘OLD’ which I’m not…LOL…Thanks a lot. (Can I have your personal mail?)

      • You are very welcome! I will mail you at your yahoo id with mine.

    • Dear Mr. Amin,
Thank you very much for what you had to say. I resent that I took your post a bit more seriously than you called for.
I agree that you are mature enough to keep safe hands, but you know what, it takes courage and lot of potential to answer on one- to- one basis, especially to people ,who know the topic being discussed very well .
I have no hard feelings for you anymore.
For me, replying to anybody on Ms. Majumder’s blog (related to Mr. Seth) is a privilege, for the feelings she has for the people around her .
Unlike you, I will try to clarify the idea to any amount of people on this blog regarding Mr. Seth’s discussion, if and only if Suchismita has no objection .

For Suchismita : Dont call all of this a catfight ! Only when people speak in right volumes, can they come to any understanding of the situation or the truth regarding the true picture of a celibrity.

  55. dis guy sounds like suhel himself. i also find suhel seth very interesting but i didnt know so much about him. thnks rahul for telling al this. can u pls tell me on wat program can i find his interviews? n dont try fight these people, they wont unstand.i read ur posts. u made me laugh but. thnks agn.

  56. hiii guys!!!
to begin wid,its such a topic that is bound bring forth a lot of contrasting n yet interesting views n opinions&so has been the case. From what i can see, most of you guys have been criticizing suhel n his well known unconventional approach to things n it didn’t take me long to gather the central implication that most of you guys would love him to be axed.BUT GUYS!!!!!!!!before passing any judgement on such a delicate & controversial topic,we must look into its various aspects n consequences.I find it worth mentioning here that our world cheers n follows leaders & there is no denying the fact that he is one of the best leaders india has ever producced in the field of marketing and management.COUNSELAGE,his own consultancy, happens to be india’s only strategic marketing &branding consultancy.Doesn’t that speak volumes about this guy’s capabilities???no matter how much you may choose to deny it but the fact remains that he is a highly-regarded columnist who people just love to read.He is frank, candid, outspoken, instinctive, and to top it all,he is very genuine.People who know him well would know that suhel has his own ways n methods & he reacts to people’s problems in his unusual but not unknown style & this very unique style of his clearly reflects that this guy is not scared of anyone or anything & i think this is what most of you guys are objecting to.Guys!!! i do understand the fervour of ur feelings & i do agree with you all on the part that sometimes he has gone overboard & said things that he wasn’t really required to.BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!let’s face the fact. Some people are like that n they are what they are n they never pretend to be someone who they aren’t n this is the thing that makes them different.N as far as we are concerned ,we would be doind good if we give proper consideration to the fact that the ball is always in our court whether to love them or not. Some of us choose to love them while others go the other way around. All this rests on the assumption that we can have different images of the same person depending on our perceptions n interpretations of things.

  57. Thanks heaven, thanks a hell lot of times, I can no more be declared mad on this blog, which i think was very likely happening lately !!!

For Sapna : Thanks for your lovely words, I really mean it! Since you seem to be interested in knowing more (and not vomiting !), I will tell you a little more. Mr. Suhel Seth is the Chairman of the National Commitee of CII and FCII. He is an alumunus of the Harvard Business School, which many English Gurus in India can only dream of. His columns relating to various fields appear in The Financial Times, London and so many English dailies such as Hindustan Times, Indian Express under various categories. He is a distinguished lecturer at various IIMs .His COUNSELAGE works for advising CEOs and Chairpersons on branding and marketing of Tata Steel,The TAJ group of hotels, Hero Honda, Coca- Cola,NDTV etc.. He does not only think about CALCUTTA but also wrote a book on Calcutta with Khuswant Singh. He has been a ROTARY International Scholar as well as the founder of the Rotaract and Interact Clubs in Calcutta .
He is one of the most talented and truly loved men in the country.
For his previous interviews , youtube is always at your service, dear.
Do you want more on anything else? Feel free in my case .I shall be more than happy to help.

For Gaurav: You must be a real knowledgeable person buddy..! I see great sense in your putting things up. You deserve a praise!

Such a great man he has become only because he is himself – Whatever you say I am! He is serving the best one could do in 1 life..

    Love you Mr. Seth !

    • hi rahul,i saw some of his videos. he is truly what u hv portrayed . u r a winner, n no point in talkin 2 losers who find critics in every1, bcoz they have been criticized their whole life . leave them. i m nt interested ..
u r engg student.. which coll? bcum frnds on fcbuk or something? rply sun.

      • Hello Sapna,
Thank you for your mindblowing words! But let’s not be too harsh on other people just because they have different opinions, be kind to them baby -1 reason and another – they are looking for chances to try to beat the **** out of you if you put things so openly. You got it, dear?
And yeaaaah , nothing can please me more than to be friends with you, lovely girl! Facebook me on my id rahulsingh056@yahoo.com .
        we ‘ll talk soon.

  58. Hi Suchismita,
I know I dont have to say I feel really happy. Your blog gave me happiness , I cant explain. All because of you.
I agree to every point of yours on Mr. Seth, you seem so correct. If you are trying to save the society from going barbarous and savage, hats off to you!
It is not important what you do but how you do- my high school principal told me. I would say this is why I fall for your every response even though we oppose each other in actual terms.
You have influenced me so much by your work. Therefore I ask Suchismita, the woman with a pure smile, for her own e-mail id, if she has no problem …

  59. Oh boy…..aint we getting better?? Talk about variation in just one Blog. The majority speaking against Mr. Seth (HELL I’M WITH YA ALL TOO HOMIES.. ….. thats justified, but…. only when we are oblivious to the questions asked on the column). Then suddenly we have the rare cocky cowboys with “I love him and damn ya all bloggers and love ya too Miss Moderator” with the assailants jumping in real quick “Oh Yea??? well how ’bout that…me gonna beat your sorry ass now…hold still Miss Mod..this ones goin down!” Then we have those who have come prepared, ones who’ve done their homework with “eh….u wudnt know what he is..he is blah blah blah and he is the best blah in Allentown. U guys r lucky he is still writing…ok now lemme go figure the rest n keep up the good work Miss Mod”. Occasionally we do see the ones who enter brave and leave with “Oh no no, no way did i say that…i mean…common guys, be realistic, do some google, u’ll know what i was at. Here, lemme clear the doubts….check this webpage…it has it all man..we cool now??” The Mod coming in with “Well, uh..yeah it was bad but nothing terminal…but lets not get too logical here now…shall we?”. The funny part is with the occasional preachers with “Oh U guys r still handgun ’round? Such a waste of time as if I have a lot better to do then come here and wake ya all up. Dumb me, i read it all right from the top blog n feel sorry bout u all lowlives wasting so much time writing things down in 5-10 mins…jeeeez! What a waste of a web-page paper too.” So if Seth can write something like this, I too sure can…heck im no counselor or a columnist, but i know how to offend people and pick on them ;-)

  60. I love suhel’s sense or rather brand of humor. We should not look at his answers as meaning of our existance…We should read his column to bring smile on our face on a boring Sunday morning

  61. I once had a brief encounter with this Suhel fellow. It did not even take a second to see how arrogant this man is.

  62. I think nobody writes to this jigwig. He himself writes to himself and then shows how he abuses others.
Also he looks like the pimp of the ruling party in india. his father seems to be too busy chasing whores in the street and he seems jsut to imitate him.

  63. Suhel Seth was my classmate in J.U. He was very talented, no doubt, and very rude at the same time. His rude comments and arrogance didn`t even spare the vastly learned professors too. He was an eternal nuisance in the class with his pseudo intellectual questions and out of the subject opinions. As a result, mediocre students like us felt extremely disturbed. The profs got irritated and often threw him out of the class. The way he left the classroom was also an image of insolence personified. But at the end of the term, he got a mediocre second class in B.A (English Hons) when he had the capacity to get high first class marks. The result of getting into the professors` black book.So who was the ultimate loser? Whatever position he may now be in, can he ever forget that lesser students than him got first class marks in graduation while he with his extreme talent and arrogance had to remain satisfied with meagre 2nd div marks? My humble advice to my old classmate is that, it doesn`t cost you anything to be polite, but yes, it earns you people`s love and respect as a result. Zindagi na milegi dobaara. Why be the cause of people`s sorrow and hurt them in the name of fun?Decision is yours, my pal.

  64. Suhel needs a muzzel during the day and a security blanket at night…
such kind of people feel small themselves and feel the need to bark so that they are taken seriously..
but there is still hope.. we have institutions for the mentally deranged
media channels need to stop bringing in jokers like him to vent their gas..
and being the stunted runt that he is, suhel needs to treat his ‘inadequacies’ with growth pills..

  65. I agree, the whole ‘Survival strategies’ column of Suhel Seth in Telegraph is a nonsense. He should be simply kicked out and has no right in hurting people’s sentiments. I am not sure, why has not someone sued him !

  66. If only, people had the mind to understand what Suhel Seth is, today, the caravan magazine wouldn’t be doing rounds. I am yet to read caravan’s latest article on Suhel Seth, however I wanted to understand the popular notion about the man first. And yes, I may make an ass of myself by saying, I didn’t know Suhel Seth before the whole noise that I have been hearing for past few days….So be it :) And looks like, he isn’t worth knowing.

I didn’t like the way he demeans people in the excerpts posted here. He certainly, needs to learn to respect people at least to start with.

Glad to have discovered your blog.

  67. I think he writes the questions himself. When people know his style of answering, why would anyone ask him those questions? To entertain The Telegraph’s readers?

  68. he is truthful for a change

  69. I Totally agree. Suhel Seth and his damn unconventional opinions are as useless as a pig’s s***.
